The Worship Word

The worship word comes from the Old English word "weorthscipe" meaning the quality that renders something desirable, useful, or valuable. Another definition of the worship word is to give ultimate value and worth. Words that translate as "worship" in the bible include the ideas of serving, being face down in submission or adoration, and to kiss, like a dog licking his master's hand. If we are going to give God ultimate worth and value then worship will have to be a way of life. Jesus gives us many ways to show God he is what and who we give ultimate value and worth to.

Some teachings of Jesus found in the book of Matthew that will help us live in worship of God…

Unless your practice of religion surpasses that of the pharisees and the teachers of the law, you will certainly not enter the kingdom of heaven.

You are the light of the world, let your light shine before men that they may see your good deeds and praise your Father in heaven.

Simply let your yes be yes and your no be no.

Love your enemies and pray for those who persecute you.

Anyone who is angry with his brother will be subject to judgement. Go and be reconciled with your brother and then come and offer your gift to God.

Do not resist an evil person. If someone strikes you on the right cheek, turn to him the other also.

Give to the one who asks you and do not turn away from the one who wants to borrow from you.

Be perfect as your heavenly Father is perfect. (be mature and complete in the likeness of God.)

Give to the needy without fanfare.

Pray privately to God.

Do not be anxious for your food, clothes, life.

Seek first His kingdom.

Do not judge.

However you want people to treat , so treat them.

Think on this…

“Worship is not passive. It is passionate.”

Passion: the state of being acted upon or affected by something external, esp. something alien to one's nature or one's customary behavior.

Passion is connected to emotion, which is connected to that which motivates to action. Passionate worship is God’s love for us being returned to Him in our feelings and our service to Him in serving others.

One thing I ask...

What do you ask of the Lord?

“One thing I ask of the LORD, this is what I seek: that I may dwell in the house of the LORD all the days of my life, to gaze upon the beauty of the LORD and to seek him in his temple.”

What do you ask of the Lord? What do you seek? You can choose today to remain, settle, dwell in the house, the kingdom, place, the realm where God remains. Jesus said, “The kingdom of heaven is near." It is right there for us. Choose to live there today!

The Whole of Religion

Fenelon said in his writing Spiritual Progress:

“This is the whole of religion--to get out of self and of self-love in order to get into God."

This is a goal of mine.
